Not many people can say they are doing the job they have always wanted to do. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to fulfill that childhood dream! I attended kindergarten at Prospect Park school, where at the age of 5, I would run home each day to give my grandfather tests. It was then that I knew I wanted to teach!
Teaching since 1994, I have experienced many grade levels, including: kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th grade. In
2003, I changed from the regular education classroom to teach our population of gifted students. It was a perfect time to make a switch, as Interboro was beginning to make changes in the services they provide to our gifted students. I work with another teacher, Mrs. Kelly DiLullo, to design plans to meet the needs of the individual learner, teach classes along with the regular education teacher, and offer enrichment to Interboro students in grades k-12. What I like most is the ever-changing needs of our students and being a part of an evolving improvement in the Interboro School District.
My educational background encompasses many different areas and I hold teaching certificates in 2 states for Early Childhood Ed., Elementary Ed., Psychology, and Reading Specialist. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Psychology, with a concentration in Science. In 1998, I completed my M. Ed. in Secondary English with Language Arts as a concentration area. In my post-graduate studies, I completed the program and state testing for a certificate in Supervision for Curriculum and Instruction. I guess one could say I am a professional student :)
In addition to teaching at Interboro, I also teach graduate level courses. This past year, I was asked by the Delaware County Intermediate Unit to fill the role of Gifted Specialist for the county. This is an exciting opportunity since it allows me to network with people at the state level, as well as, learn about the newest gifted trends for teaching our unique learners. I feel this role benefits the Interboro G.A.T.E. students because I will know about changes in Gifted Education as they occur in the state and I will have opportunity for further professional development in the area of gifted education.
When I am not teaching or attending school, I am a travel agent. This is a wonderful hobby because it is fun to plan exciting trips and adventures for others. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to learn about a lot of places! I have three wonderful children and I enjoy reading, traveling, shopping, going to sporting events, and spending time at the beach!
I hope to spend my entire career in education because I find it to be one of the most important jobs that exists and I get to help in positively shaping the future of our children!
